Article I - Name of Organization

Section 1. The name of this organization shall be the Northern State University Student Chapter of the Dakota Midland Association for the Education of Young Children (NSU-SC-DMAEYC).

Article II - Statement of Purpose

Section 1.  It is the responsibility of the NSU-SC-DMAEYC to uphold the Student Code and the educational mission of NSU.

Section 2. The purpose of this organization shall be: To encourage the development of students in Early Childhood Education through awareness of the rights and needs of children and their families and how these needs can be met by professional people trained in Early Childhood Education.

Article III - Membership

Section 1. The NSU-SC-DMAEYC must accept new members without regard to sex, race, religion, national   origin, disability or sexual preference.

Section 2.  Membership is limited to enrolled students of NSU.

Article IV - Finances

Section 1.  The ultimate responsibility for financial obligation of NSU-SC-DMAEYC rests with the membership.

Section 2.  Accounts

            A. Off Campus Account
                    1. All funds in the amount of $50.00 shall be expected only with the approval of the Executive Committee.

                    2. The fiscal year shall be January 1 to December 31.

                    3. At least two (2) months prior to the end of each fiscal year, the President shall appoint an Audit Committee of at least two (2) members.  This committee shall examine and verify the records of income, expenditures, and current balance, and shall report to the membership regarding the financial status of the organization.

                    4. The advisor shall work with the officers of the organization to monitor the financial transactions of the organization.

                    5. The ultimate responsibility for financial obligations rests with the student membership of the organization.

                    6. The Executive Committee shall be responsible for filing any necessary tax information, including an annual return.

Section 3.  All funds shall be expended only by the Treasurer and President.

Article V - Officers

Section 1. Elected Officers shall be President, Vice President/Historian, Secretary, Treasurer.

Section 2. Appointed Officers shall be chairpersons and members of committees.

Article VI - Executive Board

Section 1. Voting members of the executive board shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian of the club.

Article VII - Advisors

Section 1. The NSU-SC-DMAEYC will have an advisor(s) registered with the Department of Student Activities.

Section 2. Any full-time administrative and instructional faculty and career service staff may serve as an advisor to NSU-SC-DMAEYC.

Section 3. The club shall select a faculty advisor(s) who has consented to serve as advisor of the club and who is in agreement with the purpose of the club and is interested and knowledgeable in Early Childhood.

Section 4. The advisor's duties and responsibilities shall be:

            A. as stated in the current University regulations.

Section 5. The advisor(s) of the club shall be affirmed:

            A. as stated in the current University regulations.

Article VII - Meetings

Section 1. Regular Meetings shall be held monthly as determined by the membership at the September meeting.

Section 2. The club shall not have less than one meeting each month, September through April.

Section 3. Provisions shall be made for regular meetings:

            A. at the April meeting, provisions shall be made for the following September meeting;

            B. at the September meeting, provisions shall be made for regular meetings during the academic year.

Section 4. Special meetings shall be called by any member of the Executive Committee and that member shall notify the membership two (2) weeks prior to the meeting by phone call, letter, in person, or e-mail.

Article IV - Method to Amend the Constitution

Section 1. The constitution may be amended by:

            A. presenting the proposed amendment(s) in writing to the members not less than fourteen (14) days before voting at a regular meeting, on the amendment(s);

            B. a two thirds affirmative vote by members present shall be necessary to amend the constitution.

Article X - Statement of National and/or Local Affiliation of Extra Mural Organization

Section 1. We shall be affiliated with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the South Dakota Association for the Education of Young Children (SDAEYC), and the Dakota Midland Association for the Education of Young Children (DMAEYC).
