Lesson Summary:

  • Students will be introduced to the different body systems: Skeletal, Muscular, Circulatory, Nervous, Immune, Digestive, Respiratory, and Senses.

  • The purpose of this lesson is to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of how the body works.

  • The students will be able to apply their knowledge towards their own daily lives.

  • Students will discover how the body systems work through different types of projects such as: The Body Systems Handbook and The Body Systems Commercials.

 
Prerequisites:

Students must have a basic understanding of how the body works.

Standards: South Dakota Education Content Standards-Grades 6-8 Health Education Standards

STANDARD ONE: Students will understand health promotion and disease prevention concepts and practices.

STANDARD TWO: Students will access and evaluate health information, products and services.

STANDARD FOUR: Students will use interpersonal communication skills to enhance personal health.
Lesson Objectives:

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to diagram and present the parts of the body systems. (Visual-Spatial) (Verbal-Linguistic)

  • Students will demonstrate ability to work in corporative groups to design and produce a commercial. (Musical-Rhythmic)

  • Students will demonstrate social skills, teamwork and collaboration within their commercial group. (Interpersonal)

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to create a Body Systems Handbook containing each of the body systems covered in class. (Intrapersonal)

  • Students will develop the knowledge of the body systems to use in their daily lives.

Students will be graded on the following:

  • Organization skills within groups

  • Participation in group work

  • Quality of projects
