2006-2007

President  

 

From the small town of Gary, South Dakota, Deanna is currently earning a double major in Music Education with a minor in History at Northern State University. Her major instrument is flute, which she studied with Mr. Meier and currently with Mr. J.B. Hemke. She also has studied organ with Dr. Allen Jacobson, violin with Mr. Alex Fokkens and voice with Mr. Robert Glaubitz.  She is very involved on campus in activities including Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Civic Symphony, Chamber Orchestra, Collegiate Choir, Student Ambassadors, Phi Eta Sigma and is also has been a New Student Orientation Leader.  In addition, she is a member of MENC of which she has been the Secretary, Vice President, and currently is the President.  Off campus she serves as director of the Trinity Lutheran Choir.  In addition, she is involved in Trinity Lutheran Collegians, in which she serves as the treasurer, as well as Trinity Lutheran chimes.  She also serves the church by playing organ and is the director of instrumental music at Trinity Lutheran School.  Her future career plan is to obtain a job teaching elementary music, and/or history somewhere in the Midwest.

From the small town of Edgeley, North Dakota, Darcy is currently earning a double major in Music Education at Northern State University. His major instrument is clarinet, which he studies with Dr. Alan LaFave. He also currently studies piano with Dr. Faflak,  and voice with Dr. Zaidan.  He is involved on campus in activities including Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Civic Symphony, Percussion Ensemble, Collegiate Choir, Chamber singers, theater production, speech and debate. In addition, he is a member of MENC in which currently serves as Vice President.  He is also a member of Sinfonia in which he is currently serving as Vice President. His future career plan is to obtain a job teaching high school music.

Secretary  

Originally from Jamestown, North Dakota, Lauren Kessler is currently a senior earning her vocal and instrumental bachelors of music education degree.  Her major instrument is voice.  She is currently studying with Dr. Stacey Fraser, and previously studied with Ms. Debbie Dusseault.  Her minor instrument is the piano, which she studies with Dr. Marcella Faflack.  She has also studied percussion with Mr. James Panerio.  Lauren is involved in activities on campus, including being a peer minister for CICS (Collegians in Christ's Service), and serving as an officer in MENC.  She has served two years as reporter and is currently serving as secretary.  She has also been involved in many on-campus music ensembles including The Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Collegiate Choir, Chamber Singers, Vocal Jazz, and The Dixieland Jazz Band.  Off-campus Lauren works at the Red Rooster Coffee House and directs the North Highland United Methodist church choir.

A native of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Amy Rawerts is in the process of earning a bachelors degree in Math Education and a K-12 vocal music endorsement from Northern State University.  She has always loved music and has been involved in music ensembles at Northern such as Collegiate Choir, Chamber Singers, Marching Band, Wolfpack, and Symphonic Band.  Outside of school she assists the Trinity Lutheran Church choir in many administrative duties as well as being a member, is co-director of the hand chime choir which she co-founded, and is actively involved in the Trinity Lutheran Collegians.  Amy is a member of M.E.N.C. (Music Educators National Conference) and is currently in her third year as  treasurer.  In her spare time she and her husband Brian like to watch movies and play cards.

Reporters  

A native of Mission, South Dakota, Heide Olson is in the process of earning a bachelors degree in Music Education from Northern State University.  Her main instruments are voice, which she has studied with Dr. Scott Raines, Mr. Robert Glaubitz, and currently Dr. Stacey Fraser and Euphonium, which she has studied with Mr. Rodney Lancaster and currently Dr. Boyd Perkins.  Heide is involved in many music ensembles such as: Collegiate Choir, Chamber Singers, Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band, Wolfpack, Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble, and Brass Choir.  Professional memberships include M.E.N.C. (Music Educators National Conference) of which she has been an active member and is currently in her third year as reporter.  Other memberships include Trinity Lutheran Collegians, Handchimes, and Choir.  In her spare time she enjoys being with friends and family, relaxing, and doing many of her fun and enjoyable hobbies.

Jodi is currently in her second year as a Music Education major at Northern State University.  She is studying clarinet with Dr. Alan LaFave, and she participates in the Marching Band and Symphonic Band music ensembles.  Beyond her membership and officer position in M.E.N.C., she is also involved in the campus organizations Sigma Alpha Iota, Phi Eta Sigma, and Pi Kappa Lambda.  She plans to obtain a degree in music education and teach in the Midwest.
Faculty Advisor  
Dr. John Lockwood is the faculty advisor for Northern State University M.E.N.C.  Chapter 506. He is a native of Fort Mitchell, in Northern Kentucky located in the greater Cincinnati area.  He earned his BME at Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY, his MME at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ., and a PhD in music education at the University of Colorado, Boulder CO.  Before arriving at Northern State University he held similar positions at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, the University of Wyoming in Laramie WY and Aims Community College in Greeley CO.  He has taught music in a rural setting, an inner city school and at an American International school in Dusseldorf, Germany.
